If there’s one course that gives you an instant glimpse into Wales’ rich heritage and history, then it’s Royal St David’s. Peering down to onto the links from its clifftop perch is mighty Harlech Castle, a World Heritage Site, one of hundreds of fortresses in Wales. You’ll rub shoulders with these magnificent monuments everywhere you play – Chepstow (Britain’s first stone-built castle) near Marriott St Pierre, for example, or well-preserved Kidwelly Castle close to Ashburnham, or Beaumaris (another World Heritage Site) on the doorstep of Baron Hill and Henllys on the Isle of Anglesey.
