Ryder Cup City

The Celtic Manor Resort is located on the approach to Newport, Wales’ newest city. As the host of the Ryder Cup, Newport – like Wales – is already reaping benefits. It has become a hub of growth and regeneration, with a waterfront that’s the focus of an ambitious redevelopment scheme.

The city’s buzzy Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre shares the waterfront with an iconic new bridge across the River Usk. For sports fans the city is home to the hugely impressive Newport International Sports Village, which includes the Wales National Velodrome and competition swimming pool. And for nature lovers there’s the Newport Wetlands Reserve and new visitor centre along the banks of the Severn Estuary. But let’s not forget the golf. As Ryder Cup City it’s fitting that there are no less than 45 golf courses – including four championship courses – within an easy 40-minute drive of Newport.
